The Tongue Rug was traditionally made out of felt in Quebec and in Sweden — it is like a patchwork quilt in the shape of overlapping tongues that are often embroidered with symbolic icons. TONGUE RUG: TAPIS À LANGUES is a work in progress that touches upon themes like language, place and memory. This virtual sladdakavring will grow organically through time and interaction.
Julie Lapalme is a Montreal-based new media artist. EMBEDDED & ORPHAN TRAIN - TRAINED TALES were her first ventures in exploring narrative through multimedia. The TONGUE RUG: TAPIS À LANGUES project created a virtual sladdakavring (Swedish for tongue rug): a rug made of overlapping tongues. Her newest web project is THE WISHING TABLE - LA P'TITE TABLE ENCHANTÉE.
